Every year Share the Dignity receives thousands of requests for period products from schools, hospitals and organisations that support their local community, and women like Mary.
There are so many like Mary, who are having to make sacrifices each and every day to keep her and her family safe.
Mary's story stands out about why these drives are so important, she had fled her abusive husband with her two sons, no looking back. All living together in her car, Mary sacrificed period products to be able to feed her children.
"I once used a tampon from the floor of a public bathroom", just to feel like she had dignity, even for a day.
This story is astounding. To think that even one woman would have to do something so undignified.
We know that Mary is not alone in this, with 1 in 5 having to improvise on period products because they cannot afford them.
When someone is in crisis, the last thing on their mind should be dealing with their period.
