Your guide to period underwear!

What are period underwear and how do I use them?

Period underwear is designed to absorb menstrual blood and can replace other disposable period products. Worn like regular underwear, they have multi-layer technology that helps to stop leaks and keep you comfortable and dry. They are a reusable period product, meaning you can wash them and then reuse, potentially for up to 5 years!

Period underwear, like other period products, come in a range of absorbencies. Depending on how you menstruate will determine the absorbency level that will work for you, as you progress through your cycle. For example, if you period comes on suddenly, you may like to use a higher absorbency period underwear in the first day or two and as the menstrual blood decreases, you may reduce the absorbency.

How often do I need to change period underwear?

This is really a personal choice. Some people like to wear period underwear in combination with other period products (e.g. a menstrual cup or tampon) whereas others like to use period underwear exclusively to manage their period. Again depending on how heavy your period is might determine the frequency that you change your period underwear e.g. on heavier days you might need to change them every 4-6 hours. On lighter days, you may be able to wear them for up to 12 hours.

How do I wash/clean period underwear?

We recommend referring to the instructions on the individual packaging which detail the best way to care for your new period underwear. Typically, it is recommended to rinse used underwear under cold water, before machine washing. Following the instructions ensures that you can get the maximum wear from your period underwear.
